Old Swedish Burial Ground - Chester, Pennsylvania
Located at:
Route 291 and Welsh Street
Chester, Pennsylvania
About:
Old Swedish Burial Ground is also known as Saint Paul's Burial Ground. It is located off of busy Route 291 across from Chester's city hall.
This is no longer an active cemetery. Every burial here is ancient.
One of them appears to be an original signer of the Declaration Of Independence - John Morton. He died in his early fifties of tuberculosis, less than a year after the declaration was signed.
There is also a Christopher Columbus memorial on this same block. (Photos below.)
"Call dealer to wash this stone" is inscribed on a granite upright. That is unusual.
